Sommerfeld House - 1921

In 1921, Walter Gropius designed Sommerfeld House in Dahlam (Berlin) for a timber merchant who wanted a house built with the logs of an old ship. He was particularly interested in a house of solid wood and considered Blockhaus construction the optimal technique for this material: the building’s utility, form and architectural style merge into a single structure.
