Blockhaus

The Rubner Blockhaus System

We can trace the origin of wooden houses made by laying logs on top of one another back to early human settlements. Log houses are characterised by their stability, good insulation, and weather resistance. Advanced log-house cultures have thus developed in countries with particularly harsh climates. In much of northern Europe and the alpine regions, the log house is quite common – and is a distinguishing feature of the landscape. When the company first began, Rubner built mostly log houses in the classic style of South Tyrol.

Above and beyond the log house in its traditional form, this construction process allows for great deal of creativity when it comes to design. Even a century ago, respected forerunners of our modern architects recognised that wooden structures in block assembly lend themselves easily to the stylistic and structural requirements of contemporary architecture. A log house is also a quite suitable design for building energy-efficient homes, and is ideally suited to the design of Low-Energy or Passive Houses.

Its natural evolution came to fruition, when the Rubner-designed Flora House combined proven design principles, state-of-the-art Low-Energy House standards and a modern look.
