Living with wood between tradition and progress: Rubner sets a new benchmark for sustainability and design
This groundbreaking project on the site of a former farm is striking not only because of its unique architectural style, which puts the house into a tension-filled dialog with its surroundings and the prevailing classical Alpine design, but also because it evidences once again wood’s versatility as an ideal material for complex building projects. It is also the first new building to have received the “KlimaHaus Nature” seal and to have passed every single one of the demanding tests put forth by the Klimahaus Agency in order to attain this new certification.
KlimaHaus Nature is one of the KlimaHaus Agency’s new systems for rating a building’s environmental impact. The system measures the effect a given construction project has on the environment, based on a number of different criteria. The parameters range from the energy balance of material emissions to the quality of the air inside the structure. Also taken into account are: the primary energy source, CO² emissions, the life cycle of the materials used, and air pollution caused by the manufacturing and transportation of the building materials.
KlimaHaus Nature certification is a way to promote and support energy-efficient, environmentally friendly construction projects: a simple way in which the client can trace the ecological history of the building.
Once again, Rubner takes a pioneering role in the area of ecological construction just as it did in 2009 when the Theiner Garden BIO Vitalhotel had the honour of becoming the first hotel to achieve the “Klimahotel” certification.
